Scholarship Applications Available

Now is the time to apply for our annual Scholarship. All members and their children are welcome to apply. The requirements are as follows:

  1. Applicant must be a referee in good standing or the child of a referee in good standing.
  2. Applicant must submit a transcript of grades for the past year and the latest available marking period of 2015.
  3. Three (3) letters of recommendation from: (1) A past or present employer, (2) A school representative and (3) A personal friend or acquaintance or clergy person. (No LISRA Board Member may write a letter of recommendation.)
  4. A letter from the applicant expressing why he or she feels that they should be awarded a scholarship.
  5. Letters and transcripts must be received before April 30, 2015. All paperwork should be addressed to the LISRA office. (Make certain to write LISRA)
  6. The April 30 deadline will be strictly enforced.

The USSF Advanced Level Referee Course Grade 8 - Merrick

 

The USSF Advanced Level Referee Course Grade 8 (not a school grade) to become a Center/Assistant Referee is open for registration. Registration will close when the class is at capacity or by Friday September 8th 11:59pm. You must be at least 15 years old. No experience necessary and you do NOT need to take the Grade 9 Assistant Referee course as a prerequisite.

Location: Brookside School – 1260 Meadowbrook Rd, North Merrick

You must attend ALL 6 sessions 7:00pm – 9:30pm

  • Session 1: Monday, September 11

  • Session 2: Wednesday, September 13

  • Session 3: Monday, September 18

  • Session 4: Tuesday, September 19

  • Session 5: Monday, September 25

  • Session 6: Wednesday, September 27

A mandatory parent’s meeting for participants under 18 years old is held at 7:00 pm Wednesday September 27th and is approximately 60 minutes to explain the program and answer your questions. Afterwards, we will have a clinic to go over the on-line scheduling system, Arbiter.

The fee for the course is $205 which includes a uniform, payable online through PayPal (secure site). If you cancel after the closing date (Friday September 8th ) you will be issued a refund less the cost of the uniform kit ($60). PayPal will require credit card information at the end of the online registration process. Payments not received by the course closing date may be removed from the course and assigned to others from a waiting list.

This class fills up quickly. Once full, the class will be closed, so register ASAP before the closing date to reserve a seat! No walk-ins will be accepted.

As part of the Advanced Level Referee Course (Grade 8) Requirements, you will need to complete all 17 of the online Grade 8 Referee Course Modules prior to the first class. You must enter the State Association NEW YORK - EAST and Clinic Number 1P in order to get credit for the module. Take a picture with your smartphone of the certificate that appears at the end of each module for your records and bring to the first day of the course.

Each module is about 4 to 6 minutes long. To complete all 17 modules (Laws) will require about 90 minutes. You can do a little at a time and return later.

There is a written exam at the end of the course. Passing score is 80% or better. If you do not pass, you have 1 year to retake future courses or just retake the exam at no charge.

If you or your child has any learning disabilities, or needs a Spanish exam, PLEASE tell the instructors at the START of the class so they can make accommodations.
